RENGO dispatched peace mission to India and Pakistan for persuasion not to continue further nuclear test nor development. The mission consisted of 6 RENGO members, namely, from RENGO head office, RENGO Hiroshima, RENGO Nagasaki and International Confederation of Free Trade Unions - Asia Pacific Regional Organization (ICFTU-APRO). It visited trade union and governmental offices in India and Pakistan to request the stoppage of the nuclear weapon development and exchanged opinions with unions, governments and journalists.
The main trade unions RENGO visited are as follows; Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions (APFTU), All Pakistan Federation of Labour (APFOL) and Pakistan National Federation of Trade Unions (PNFTU).
Being only people in the world to suffer the nuclear attack, to protect the world peace, the role of Japan is significant. Central and local governments, trade unions, A-bomb victim associations and NGOs should carry out each duty for abolition of nuclear weapons respectively and jointly.
RENGO peace mission requested and proposed following points.
- Stoppage of nuclear weapon development
By handing out the letter of request and appealing tragedy of A-bomb attack, stoppage of nuclear weapon development was requested.
- Exchange of opinions for nuclear disarmament and permanent peace
Trade unionists in India and Pakistan approved the request from RENGO mission, however, repeated appealing the nuclear policy of respective countries as "justifiable" or "unavoidable". The exchange of opinions turned more unavoidable.
- Participation in the RENGO peace rallies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August
RENGO invited trade union leaders under ICFTU in the two countries to participate in the RENGO peace rallies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki held in August to touch peace movement in Japan.
- Cooperation to the opening A-bomb exhibitions in India and Pakistan
RENGO requested the cooperation to the opening A-bomb exhibitions in the two countries and visited trade unions pledged full cooperation.
