| RENGO held the 27th Central Committee at Hiroshima which keeps sending out the desire of the abolition of nuclear weapons and the permanent peace to the world. The Spring Struggle for a better life was completed with the four pillars of (1)wage struggle, (2)reduction of working hours, (3)improvement of policy and structure and (4)improvement of employment and labor systems toward the establishment of the new work rules. We start today our preparation for the victory at the Spring Struggle in 1999, with the fruit and reflection of 1998 and the new discussion on the matter to be tackled. To realize steadily the Demands and Proposals on Policy and System which this Central Committee adopted, RENGO together with its affiliated unions expands demanding actions strongly to central and local governments and to meet with the expectations by union members and the general public. The Committee adopted its guideline for the coming Upper House election which is the most important issue. The politics of the Hashimoto administration is nothing but the ordinary people slighted politics that puts the burden only on the people under the name of reform. The worst is the failure of the economic policy which made the economical situation of Japan more and more chaotic and prolonged than ever. To break this impasse, the general economic policy by the government is far from standard in terms of scale and substance. RENGO adopted "the economic policy toward the stability of employment and living" with the individual consumption measures and the employment generation in the center. RENGO will realize the above policy by strengthening the cooperation with the political parties. How do we put the way of reform and consensus building? To whom we entrust the leadership of the country? The fight to press people to choose the answer is "the coming 18th Upper House election". RENGO puts all the effort to the Upper House election in widening the Democratic Party of Japan centered political force to raise the living standard of people with fair, balanced, equitable and popular participated way. RENGO, representing the benefit of all workers, to establish the relaxed, affluent and fair society, must achieve the winning of all 47 RENGO nominated candidates at the election for the first step to the change of the political power. The victory will open the new stage of the politics for the workers. Each of 8 million union members of RENGO will do the best to the election campaign with passion and fighting spirit. We appeal for the strenuous efforts by 8 million members and their families. |
