differentials were reported on.
On February 1, at the Ikenohata Cultural Center in Tokyo, RENGO held its "Forum for Correcting Differentials, '99 Spring Struggle" which aims to close gaps in working conditions for workers in small to mid-sized businesses and non-affiliated workers. 250 participants gathered from affiliated organizations of the Small to Mid-Sized Joint Struggle Center and major unions in Kanto area bloc. They exchanged information and discussed issues based on their practical experience gained at affiliated organizations.
In the case study report for the struggle over differential corrections, The Japanese Electrical, Electronic and Information Union, Confederation of Japan Automobile Workers' Unions, and the Japan Association of Metal Machinery and Manufacturing Workers explained the wage fact-finding survey conducted on 200,000 workers. In addition, Manager Matsuo of the Fair Trade Commission gave a lecture on "trade business between firms under the operation of the Subcontract Law."
After an active exchange of experiences and opinions, participants pledged to fight for victory at the 1999 Spring Struggle, and adopted the following appeal to the forum. "We will squarely face the many problems of pay raises, shorter working hours, securing employment and the enactment of the Basic Law for Promoting Key Technology for Production." |
