RENGO Thai Project
(9,16 February 2001)

RENGO developed the Thai Project in Bangkok, which is international support, not simply monetary or material support. 17 members from affiliate organizations participated in the project, which took place over a period of one week from January 30, and encouraged disabled people in Thailand.

RENGO held a sports festival in conjunction with the Labour Congress of Thailand (LCT) on February 4 to appeal to Thai society about the productivity of the disabled and also encourage those people. This was the largest event in the Thai Project with 2500 disabled people actively participating.

Career and Home Balance Assistance Law Rally
150 participants Outside the MHLW
(9,16 February 2001)

The "Bill for Partial Revision of the Child Care and Family Care Leave Law (Draft)" is to be submitted to Labour Policy Council's Equal Employment Opportunity Subcommittee. In response, RENGO held a "Rally before MHLW to Radically Improve the Child Care and Family Care Leave Law revising it into the Career and Home Balance Assistance Law" on February 6 in front of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. 150 people from 30 affiliated organizations were in attendance at the rally.

Representing the organizers, RENGO Vice President Morooka encouraged subcommittee members saying, "we are nearing the peak of revising the Child Care and Family Care Leave Law into the Career and Home Balance Assistance Law, something we have sought for over a year. The December 22 proposition includes RENGO demands, but is still not enough. We want five labor-side members to make every effort to build a society in which we can raise children while working without fear."
After sending off its members to the Labour Policy Council Equal Employment Opportunity Subcommittee with applause, the frosty rally closed with a chant demanding that the "Child Care and Family Care Leave Law" be revised to the "Career and Home Balance Assistance Law."
