Job Stability/Creation, Work Rules Sought
(13 July 2001)

RENGO submitted the signatures demanding a "Breakthrough Job/Life Threatening Danger" and the "Establishment of Working Rules" to the Prime Minister via Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry Administrative Vice Minister Kondo.

The signatures were collected as part of the "the development of activities for job stabilization/creation and the establishment of work rules" which were endorsed at the 20th Central Executive Committee Meeting in March. The signature collection drive was led by local RENGO and conducted nationwide from May to June with 670,000 of the submitted signatures gathered up by July 10. The contents of the petition consisted of nine topics regarding: 1) employment stabilization and creation, 2) enforcement of measures for laid-off and unemployed workers and 3) the establishment of working rules. RENGO demanded that the government fully reflect RENGO's demands in future policy management and budgeting.
