Gather Worker's Real Opinions to Enrich Job Measures National Hotline & Survey (26 October 2001) |
||
RENGO headquarters and all local RENGO changed their regular "hotlines" to an "employment consultation hotline" for one week to understand the worries of the unemployed. RENGO headquarters installed extra phone lines in order to accommodate increased consultations. Questions came in one after another from either workers or their families regarding issues from dismissal and corporate restructuring to unpaid wages, employment insurance, payment of retirement funds, and reemployment. Counselors were able to better grasp the real situation of anxiety over employment that prevails nationwide. Since October 22, RENGO established an "employment open forum" on its homepage at http://www.jtuc-rengo.or.jp where numerous opinions, requests and questions have been raised, just like at the consultation hotline, indicating the intense level of anxiety over this problem. Furthermore, RENGO has also been working on a questionnaire drive in front of each Hello Work (public employment agency) office throughout Japan and is scheduled to collect interview surveys from 10,000 people by the end of October. The results from these concentrated activities will be incorporated into future demands to the government and political parties as well as utilized in media campaigns to enrich job measures. |
