People Power 2001 National Senior Rally (28 September 2001) |
The 2001 National Senior Rally took place at the Tokyo International Forum on September 15 hosted by the Japanese Federation of Senior and Retired Organizations (TAISHOKUSHA-RENGO) and co-hosted by RENGO. With "Establish a Safe and Reliable Social Security System" as its main slogan, the rally gathered 5,000 participants from nationwide with President Hatoyama of the Democratic Party of Japan and President Doi of the Social Democratic Party present. In his opening speech, JFSRO President
Nishida criticized the Koizumi Cabinet's attitude toward the social
security system stating "they say they will bring about reform
with pain. The seniors and the weak are those who always suffer."
He revealed his resolution that "we should promote our movements
with in-depth discussion regarding Sasamori
spoke saying, "if workers on active duty and the retired people cowhat
we should do and what we will leave for our posterity. " |
