Petition to Lower House
Speaker/Upper House President Over 7.8 million Signatures Collected (17 April 2002) |
During a round of petition activities seeking
"Radical Reform for Secure Medical Care System and Objection to Burden
Increase," RENGO filed a petition to the President of the House of
Councilors on April 17, following a petition to the Speaker of the House
of Representatives on April 11. For the petition to the President of the
Upper House on April 17, RENGO President Sasamori, Executive Director
Narukawa of RENGO Department of Economic and Social Policy and others
submitted a portion of the 7.8 million signatures, which had been collected
up until April 16, the day before. All three House of Councilors members
from the Democratic Party of Japan-Imaizumi, Gunji, and Yanase-were also
on hand. President Sasamori submitted a statement along with the signatures to the Upper House President and explained that the signature collection drive garnered a massive response from various workplaces. He stressed his opposition to any increase in burden while delaying radical reform of the medical system. Further, as petition signatures are still being gathered, RENGO will see that the remainder are submitted to the Diet by House of Councilors members. |
