"Sufficient Employment Measures" to Overcome Living Standard Anxieties Demand Modifications in 2002 Budget to Opposition Parties (15 February 2002) |
RENGO conducted its demand activities at the Democratic Party of Japan on February 6 and the Social Democratic and Liberal Parties on the 7th. These activities are intended to modify the government's budget plan in order to swiftly resolve anxieties over living standards and restore their safety and security. The demand statement seeks inclusion in the 2002 fiscal year budget of the following three points; [1] a change in government policies, [2] the creation and stabilization of employment, and [3] safe reform of the medical care system. General Secretary Kusano joining in the demand activities gave an address saying, "the unemployment rate reached 5.6 % in December and job conditions are extremely severe. We want the government's FY 2002 budget plan to be modified to include sufficient employment measures." He strongly demanded to that job measures be fortified while at the same time introducing RENGO's activities such as employment consultation hotlines, surveys in front of the Hello Work offices, 10 million signature drive for medical care reform, etc.At the demand activity conducted at the Democratic Party on the 6th, Democratic Party Policy Research Council Chairman Okada and others revealed that they are considering jointly conducting a modification demand of the government's budget plan with the four opposition parties. Furthermore, he stated that the party will cooperate with RENGO's "10 million signature drive to demand drastic reform for a safe medical care system and to object to increased burdens." RENGO is scheduled to conduct its demand activities at the ruling parties, for instance to the Liberal Democratic Party on 18th. Also, from February 12, RENGO began observing deliberations of the FY 2002 budget plan in the House of Representatives Budget Committee. |
