Institute of Labour Education & Culture

ILEC is an incorporated association established by RENGO in December 1995, aiming at

  1. Supporting workers for their educational and cultural activities over their entire lives,
  2. Fostering personnel who can cope with changes and meet demands of the time,
  3. Improving the living standards and cultural lives of working people, and
  4. Contributing to the development of an autonomous and democratic trade union movement.

The first pillar of its field of activities is "Education". ILEC provides "RENGO Academy Masters' Course" which offers year-round high-level training courses to promising trade union leaders of RENGO affiliates and Local RENGOs. Specific courses on publicity, management analysis of small-and-medium-sized enterprises, women leaders, and international cooperation are organized for a wide range of union members. In addition, ILEC convenes public seminars and symposia targeting at the general public.

Secondly, in the field of "Culture", the Institute organizes various events, such as games of Go and Japanese chess competitions, art exhibitions, and rock band contests with participation of union members.

Last but not least, "Publishing" filed is also important for ILEC, with its publication of periodicals and books.
