The Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 passed by the Senate of the Philippines in February, was adopted by the Committees of the Lower House of on 29 May to repeal the Human Security Act of 2007. President Duterte is expected to sign it in 30 days.
We are deeply concerned that if the bill is enacted into a national law and enforced, the trade union organisations and activists in the Philippines will be under tangible threats of unwarranted arrests and punishment for being associating, organizing, or expressing an opinion deemed to be in favour of organisations and activities that fall under the overbroad definition of terrorism.
We, RENGO, in solidarity with Filipino workers, ITUC, and ITUC-AP, has sent a protest letter to the Office of President of Philippines to stop the president from signing the bills.
