On March 17, RENGO welcomed a courtesy visit by UN Special Envoy for Burma, Razali Ismail. Razali visited Burma the beginning of this month and met with the opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. After expressing his welcome to UN Special Envoy Razali, President Sasamori exchanged opinions with Razali on the current conditions in Burma. Sasamori criticized the military government especially with regard to the case where two Burmese who supplied information to the ILO Liaison Officer stationed in Burma were sentenced to death. Sasamori assured him that RENGO will continue to work together with the United Nations in the future to ultimately obtain the freedom of association, abolition of child labor, and democratization. At its last Central Executive Committee meeting, RENGO decided to extend support for the RENGO-supported Burma Office Japan for two more years.
